Welcome to Frank Wallbank's Second World War diaries, written between August 1940 and February 1945.
Frank, who was my father, was a fitter in the 3rd King's Own Hussars, repairing and maintaining trucks and tanks in Egypt, the Western Desert, Palestine and Italy. In order to preserve what he wrote, I have transcribed the legible parts of the diaries, and in order to 'fill in' some of the gaps, I have consulted copies of the Regimental diaries, which are stored in the National Archives in Kew, and Frank's own Army record, which I requested from the Army Personnel Division. (As of March 2015 I have not yet received this.)
Explanations and quotations from other sources have been written in italics. All the text in the diaries in plain print, was written by Frank.
